    Just the beginning...

    Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 09:49 PM [General]

Well bow season is done, and shotgun has bugun... Lots of time left for the hunt. I took a basket eight and a button buck with the bow. I thought the button was a mid sized dow as he was forty yards out and I was on the ground. There is something to be said for Tred Barta after all pretty cool to nail one from the ground though I felt a bit bad when I was those nubs... I railed a mid sized doe on the second day. Rut must be on cause she was following her "man" he was a small eight, but not much mass so I went for the doe.  Not too tough of a shot but she was straight at me and I had to shoot her in the neck cause my kids teacher wanted the heart to dissect in class which I think is pretty cool. I learned an important lesson on opening day. My Mossberg wouldn't cycle cause I was in a hurry when I took the stupid stick out that limits the number of shots. So I had to ake out the muzzle loader... In the rain... With no rear scope cover... which meant I had to kinda hold it muzzle up, a bit... Well its a good thing all I saw was a button because when I tried to fire it to get the bullet out, it went about four yes 4 FEET and sat there fizzling. Rifled barrels do not allow a tight seal around the sabot like this jack ass thought they would a zero dark thirty. Well more later good luck to all. D

    Getting antsy

    Monday, September 15, 2008, 09:27 PM [General]

So we're one month from Bow season and almost all of the prep work is done. I have my main bow stand up, two more going up Sunday and a fourth set to put up shortly. Kind of alot but they are spred across the county so I can go where the deer are. We finally just finished makeing the loop around my uncles property this past weekend, what a pain and I just got over the poison ivy from last time. Man will it be worth it when its time to hunt! I bought a Mossberg 500 last week, so finally I have a shotgun with a rifled barrel. I still intend to use the muzzle loader primarily but this gives me an extra tool. Plus the brother can use the Ithica if he comes home in season. I've been shooting farther and farther with the bow, so I should be ready... more later D
