Well my friend Tommy and myself put in for area 18 for Elk muzzle loading season. I hunted there last year, and didn't have much luck. I saw several cows and found some new bedding areas, so hopefully we have better luck. Next weekend we'll start some scouting in the area, and try to keep on top of the local herd.
The snow drove em down
Well, just what I was afraid of. The snow came and the Muleys are down low. My buddy spotted them on the golf course. Hopefully 1st season hunters stir them up alittle. All I have to say is my ATV is much faster than a golf cart. Watch out golfers! lol!
Getting closer!
Well, just about 3 more weeks til my season starts here in Colorado. I'm taking out my T.C. Triumph. I here the Muleys are still at 9 to 10,000 feet at the moment but were getting a storm with some cold weather snow coming in tomorrow. It should start driving them down to some lower elevations. I was hoping that they would stay high to deter some of the other hunters from tagging out easy. I've seen hunters coming down the mountain with antelers hanging out the back of their beds, so it looks like it's been a good start to the season. I've been out Turkey hunting the last 3 weekends. Not much luck thou. Wrong place at the wrong time. I have til Oct. 5 for Turkey but I might have to put it on hold til spring, so I can start getting ready for big game. I'm leaving for 11 days and my stomache hurts waiting for the time to come. All we do is talk Deer and Elk so it's hard to get any work done.
I'm heading out in 6 weeks or so
Heading out in 2nd rifle season with my T.C. Triumph 50 cal. I was waiting on my wife to get her hunter ed card and I dropped the ball this year for the muzzle loading draw. So anyway, 2nd season will have to do. I'm hunting Hot Sulpher Springs area which is full of MULEYS so hopefully I can get up high enough to get away from the rifles and still see some deer. I do have an Elk tag though so first come first serve. I've been behind the times with the cameras, but a couple years ago I picked up a nice digital one so you bet I'll get some pics and post em.
Good luck too all you, and happy hunting. BE SAFE!!!
Clint
