    Welcome - new here

Saturday, November 3, 2007, 12:31 PM CST [General]

This blogging thing is new to me. My screen name is PowDuck. If you've seen it on any other forum (duck, hunting, traditiona bows, diesel, etc.) it's probably me.

I'm from NE Arkansas. Migrated to SW AR in 1979. Moved across town to the Texas side 4 years ago. I love to duck hunt, turkey hunt, goose hunt, deer hunt, elk hunt, ride 4 wheelers.

I'm a die hard Razorback fan, in either good times or bad. (Hence the pig avatar.) I ought to be since my twin daughters are attending college there. That's why I'm always broke.

    Anywho, more later.

Deer camp this year was a bit different. There were only three of us there. Typically we have 8 people. Due to illness, family situations, etc. it was only me, my cousin and his son. Different but still very enjoyable.

Opening day afternoon I was walking back to my stand and a doe stepped out in the road at 40 yards. She let me look at her a little too long so I took her. When I brought her back into camp my nephew and his wife and kid and my mother-in-law had come to visit. We had a good visit and after they left, my cousin and I went back to stands. I went to my father-in-law's stand 150 yards behind camp. After 15 minutes I heard my cousin shoot. A minute later I shot the 9 pointer in my gallery. This was the same deer that came out the previous night when I was bow hunting. He was 10 yards beyond my range. Tonight he wasn't out of range for the .270 Win.

He's not huge but for this area he's a good 'un. There are larger deer here but you rarely if ever see them. He is the largest deer I have ever shot.

The buck and doe put 60 pounds of hamburger and 8 packages of back straps in the freezer.
