Hey Ya'll,
Well it's been a day or two since I've been able to post but it's been kinda hectic around here and beautiful outside so of course we took the kids out to have a good time outdoors. Well the Holiday has come and past but I want to talk a minuet about trick or treat. When I talk about trick or treating in the outdoors I'm talking about food plots of course. First things first is if you planted the right food plot. A food plot is not only to attract game, but also to keep them and up the nutrition they are receiving to heighten the quality of game your harvesting. First thing we want to consider when planning a food plot is the type of game we are feeding. Most of us are very focused on the big game aspect of the wildlife management practice, but we should also consider the smaller game we have and their nutritional needs also. It is very important when planning a plot to take in to the consideration the nutritional balance needed to attract and keep game but also to also maintain them through out the seasons. By modifying the food aspect of game you modify their habits, their movements, and schedule. You can also attract game from areas around you all of which builds your habitation of resident game. When considering the type of plot materials to use if it's your first time I suggest calling your local conservation department and having a wildlife biologist come out and do a nutrition survey to help you select the nutrient needs and surpluses on your property. Most will also suggest the types of forage and grasses to plant to help with all your needs. If we shoot from the hip with this kind of decision we often trick ourselves into a false since of thinking that we have labored for a great reward when all we have actually done is broke our back for a learning experience. When you have figured out the types of needs that you have I then suggest going with a reputable company to supply the seed for your plot. Though it maybe a little more expensive it will pay off in the end with good growth results rather than a planting that still leaves you lacking come season. With proper planning and a little investment of some reliable resources we can trick the game into doing that which benefits us and treat ourselves to some fine hunting and eating! A good motto to go by is that the brightest newest star may just burn out the quickest so when choosing products for our outdoor adventures we should always look to the dependable & reliable products which have worked for us, and our trusted brothers and sisters in hunt, in the past. If it's past the test of time it will more than likely deliver when it's game time! You know it's that beautiful time of year when it gets warm enough during the day to take some friends and family and spend some time outdoors and enjoy this beautiful country we are blessed to be living in, we did all weekend and I encourage you to do the same untill my next chance to visit with ya'll, my hunting family.
Thanks again, God Bless, and Best of Hunting!
