Let the Elk Watch Out in '09

    Friday, May 16, 2008, 02:11 PM [General]

As I have mentioned before, I am a cancer survivor....so in that long and tedious journey, I was trying to figure out what would be the next great outdoor event for me.

Though I had some ideas of hunting this year (2008) I have decided to prepare for a guided elk hunt in 2009.  I will be looking for where and with who and what guide service this summer.

I have to get a new rifle (thinking of an in-line muzzle loader) then get out and practice shooting again....   and of course, get back in shape...  I am walking now about 3 miles a week....(you may think that is not a lot, but at one point a lap for me was a round through the kitchen, den, living room, dining room and back to the kitchen which was all I could do)

I am looking to get to 10 miles per week by the end of this year growing to 20 miles next year.

If any of you out there have some interest in this kind of a hunt let me know as most guides are a one guide to two hunters.....    Let me know if you either have an interest or have a guide and location recommendation.  Either is appreciated.

    Muzzleloading

    Wednesday, December 5, 2007, 06:49 PM [General]

Due to cancer, I have not hunted in 5 years, sold my rifle and looking to start over now that God has been gracious enough to let me live.  I am thinking about moving to muzzleloading.  I think it would be fun, lets me hunt earlier in the season (I am not sure about handling harsh winter effects after my illness) and I have always been a hunter who works to get animals close to me.

I have hunted Elk, White tail, Mule Deer, Antelope, Turkey in the past.  I am a reasonable shot.  I am looking to hunt primarily elk and turkey.

I am looking for guidance on this from those who know.  i want to keep it simple, but I do like the details of doing it well.

     Any guidance would be appreciated.
