    Went Huntin' this weekend

Sunday, September 30, 2007, 07:25 PM EST [General]

Just got home from a full weekend of hunting. Yesterday evening I was sitting in a tree about 20 feet up, saw 3 does about 50 yards out so I just watched them. It was a momma and her twins from this spring, would have been good eating but they wouldn't come into range. While I was sitting there, a red tailed hawk flew up and landed right beside me, He was about an arrows length from my right side. I watched him out of the corner of my eye but curiosity got the best of me and I turned to look at him and he flew off. Must have been a pretty good camo job huh? Anyway, no deer for me last night.

This morning I over slept and didn't get to the woods until right at daylight. saw 2 does and a ton of squirrels. Deer were too far off to get a shot at so again I watched them feed at the edge of the woodline.   I stayed on stand until 10:00 am and went back to my truck only to find a flat tire. Was changing it and my tire tool broke in half so I couldn't get the jack to work, what a pain. Ford will hear from me tomorrow loud and clear about that piece of crap. Great truck, cheap a$$ tire tool and jack. Back to work tomorrow to pay for the next trip out. Our first group of hunters come in two weeks, we're ready.

    Getting ready

Sunday, September 23, 2007, 09:54 PM EST [General]

Spent most of today with my daughter on the range letting her sight in my .30-30 for youth season. She drilled the 10 ring. She has always been a good shot, she is 15 now and been shooting since she was 5. After that we went with my brother and hung a couple of stands over some good funnels. It is so dry here that it is going to be a tough hunt this season. Fortunately we have the experience to get on deer most of the time. Our first group of hunters come in two weeks. It is going to be fun.

    Welcome to my page

Sunday, September 23, 2007, 09:35 PM EST [General]

Welcome to my first blog page, Feel free to leave comments on hunting or fishing trips you have had and any tips that work for you. Keep it clean and no arguments please.

I operate a small guide service in North-Central Ky. called Bluegrass Bucks and Beards and it was featured in the August issue of Peterson's Hunting, titled "Battlefield Bucks".

I enjoy hunting all types of game from squirrels to Whitetails, doves to ducks. I spend about 150-200 days a year in the field either hunting or fishing. Obviously not all day every time but try to hit local ponds to fish after work and maybe shoot a few birds before dark.

    Thanks for visiting
