Tom and I went out this evening...just a couple of hours, but just had an itch to get in at least a LITTLE time after a weekend away. Wind blowing pretty good out of the South, stirring up all kinds of things to irritate the eyes and nose. Was warm inside the Scent Lok, and mosquitoes were really swarming. Tom felt like it wouldn't be a good night to go out, but we opted to give it a try anyway. About twenty minutes after we got in place, I heard a couple of doe calls that sounded close enough that I felt I should be seeing something. I wondered if Tom was messing around with one of his calls, but he was not. Within a minute of hearing the two doe calls, two does stepped out of some thick brush not fifteen yds from where I was standing. Both were small. Tom said he could see a third one behind them a little further off from where he was situated. Due to the noise from the wind, I didn't even hear them walking through the leaves. They just popped out and were so close I was afraid to move. They only stuck around for a minute maybe, then something spooked them apparently, and they took off headed back the way they came. Still don't know what alarmed them for sure. But, I wasn't too disappointed...they were both awfully small. About fifteen minutes after they took off, Tom said a smaller buck walked right behind me about 45 yds to the South. I never heard him, and never saw him due to the direction I was facing. Said he thought he might have been a small six-point, but didn't get a good enough look at the rack to say for sure. Feels pretty sure he was more than a spike or 4 point. But, like I said, smaller body. Not a shooter. ;) I won't have a chance to get out at all tomorrow. Will most likely be Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening hunts for me this week, and then morning and afternoon on Sunday. Should have a good amount of the day on Monday and Tuesday of next week to get out. Thanks to those who have been checking out my pics and blog! Happy Hunting!
