Does anybody have any tips on whitetail hunting? As far as scent control?

I was taught this trick by my grandfather. He said that is has been used for centuries. What the old timers used to do is dig back the leaves at the base of the tree until you smell the mossy smell. He said that the smell will overpower any odor you may have.

hey justin. haven't hunted whitetail much but bears have a great sense of smell as well and i hunt them a lot here in alaska. as a scent cover, i use something the bears are used to (like fox urine.) i sprinkle a little around my ground blind and it has never failed. i'm wondering if you did the same w/ skunk or some other scent with which whitetail are familtiar... the various scents can be purchased at trapping supply joints.also, i've seen products like "scentlock" ads--do they work? you probably know that better than i.
also, keep your hunting clothes in a bag of pine branches taken from around your stand and don't let your sweet wife wash them w/ any detergent or use fabric softner!S. Bruce
