Yes thats right, it snowed in parts of Florida this past weekend.
We Here in SW Florida were spared the falling white stuff. But, we were not spared the sub freezing temperatures. As I am writing this on Monday night the temperature is expected to be near freezing before morning. Which is a huge improvement over the past couple of days. We are two hours South of Tampa on the coast in Cape Coral and we have been in the upper twenties for the past couple of nights. BRRRRR!
For those of you up North this might not seem very cold but remember where we are. These frigid temps, while not unheard of, will still turn out to be a catastrophic event for our inland farmers and citrus growers. What effect it will have on our hunting is yet to be determined. The deer in Florida are no more prepared for this kind of weather than we are. While they will survive the cold, the natural food sources are wiped out by hard prolonged freezes such as this. When food becomes scarce deer wil seek out other areas and different types of graze to stay alive.
For those of you that feed deer, keep those feeders full. It may be the one thing that helps get them through the winter. Not to mention the might just hang around until Archery Season opens in August.
Stay Warm People!!!
